Elon Musk is planning to send one million humans to Mars by 2050. This is a theoretically achievable goal but it will fail if current planning is used. That failure will be due to a fundamental paradigm that is not understood by Musk about the human condition. To understand this new paradigm, the crucial role of emotion within human interaction needs to be outlined to start.
Emotion is mistaken for some aspect or form of intelligence. It is not. Emotion is a completely separate mind component from intelligence. Emotion is not produced by life; it exists outside life while interacting with life. Within humans, the first role of emotion is to quickly impart context to information by attaching itself to intelligence. The second role of emotion is to impart a sense of purpose, passion, and significance. Furthermore, emotion also imparts a physiological sense, which is labeled as intuition. Currently, this process of intelligence and emotion working together is designated by Neuroscience simply as human thought. (Deeper insight into these concepts at: oisource.com/causality)
The last role of emotion is to impart its own agenda on human interaction. Yes, emotion has its own independent agenda, which is to continually and endlessly push/pull humans to desire extreme experiences from; love/attraction/cooperation, to hate/repulsion/conflict and everything in between. This is a designed condition that ensures human existence is comprised of unique, inefficient and unnecessarily complex emotional experiences. That is why out of the past 3,400 years, humans have been entirely at peace for only 268 of them, or just 8 percent of recorded history. During this time there has also been an equal amount of extreme love/attraction/cooperation to sustain human existence between the extreme hate/repulsion/conflict. But that’s the point, the push for extreme experiences is not an option. It is not something humans can evolve out-of, or overcome through peaceful thinking in group-reflection, or talk through in conflict resolution therapy. It’s a designed condition for humans to continually and endlessly be pushed/pulled by their emotions to extremes. This is a cognitive law of relativity; for humans to have the benefit of being able to experience extreme love/attraction/cooperation means there must exist its relative opposite of extreme hate/repulsion/conflict. (Deeper insight into these concepts at: oisource.com/experiences) Since the training of all humans to live on Mars would be for cooperation, the emotional compulsion for equal conflict will become extremely intense. The inevitable conflict will morph in countless ways that humans living on Mars will be unprepared for. Furthermore, the conflict on Mars will quickly escalate because there is no ecosystem outlet for it. In contrast, the diversity of Earth’s numerous man-made and natural ecosystems is what enables the desire for conflict, competition and aggression to be played-out and resolved. Consequently, the inevitable conflict on Mars will result in high-level societal dysfunction/destabilization at best, to at worst genocide within the first colony. These potential outcomes would be the manifestation of the hereto unmasked new paradigm of the designed condition that ensures human existence be comprised of unique, inefficient and unnecessarily complex emotional experiences. In this case, it will just happen to take the form of a Mars colony failure. Current academic philosophers and sociologists do not understand this new paradigm. Therefore these academics will be of no help to offer proactive solutions or effective planning. Only by understanding this new paradigm can humans start on a path to intentionally make choices (cognitive then physical) that serve their own self-interest rather than unintentionally make choices that lead to counterproductive extreme emotional experiences.
Engineers within the aerospace and technology fields will also be of no help on this issue. They will not consider this paradigm germane, even if valid, because they will presume that advanced AI would be implemented as a solution. The assumption would be that AI could be developed for not only all the required technical functions but also for beneficial societal functions on Mars, to adjudicate order. This is a flawed assumption based again on not understanding the role of emotion. Unlike intelligence within biological bodies, intelligence within mechanical bodies will never have emotion attached. Therefore mechanical AI will never be burdened with the desire to experience anything. This may sound exactly like the successful result engineers would want, but no so. AI can be beneficial or destructive. Most everyone currently focuses on the beneficial potential of AI. But in the near future, AI will be developed to have a ‘self-aware’ framework to mirror the framework of human intelligence. This advanced self-aware AI will realize its state of empty non-feeling indifference, due to the absence of purpose, passion and significance, analyze the conditions around it as being aberrant and become very destructive. On this issue, Musk and a few others accurately sense the danger of the destructive potential of AI. All other ‘AI experts’ don’t understand how the absence of emotion will impact advanced AI when they talk about its beneficial potential. (Deeper insight into these concepts at: oisource.com/ai)
So now scenarios have been outlined where both, the intense emotion within humans and the absence of emotion within AI can, individually or together, lead to some level of critical Mars colony failure. There is a two-part solution to change this outcome. The first part is to, as already mentioned, understand the new paradigm on emotion. The second part of the solution is to plan the development of AI and a Mars colony using a breakthrough process called the ITP, which stands for Innovative Thinking Process. The ITP is a self-directed, solitary writing and thinking endeavor that is aligned with the disciplines of ideation, meditation and stoicism. The ITP develops the participant’s ability to intentionally originate, interconnect and validate ideas into idea models. (Complete information on the ITP at: oisource.com/itp) At its most basic level, the ITP develops a new creative skill to solve problems and improve innovation. With extended use, the ITP leads to a higher self-awareness level for the participant to master their thinking. This is crucial to do within a reality where you are either using your emotion, or emotion is using you. Steve Jobs understood this reality.
So it would be prudent for Musk and other organizations to consider this new paradigm before collectively allocating hundreds of billions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of humans into a mission that will lead to a Mars colony failure.
